This report, part of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas’ Best Practices Guidelines Series, focuses on the roles of protected areas, ecological corridors, and other effective area-based conservation mechanisms (OECMs) in maintaining ecological connectivity and associated habitat values and ecosystem processes across large landscapes and seascapes. The report focuses on the science (primarily from a western scientific perspective) and practical aspects of planning and implementing ecological corridors to maintain connectivity across landscapes.
