This press release by Parks Canada highlights that the Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, Catherine McKenna, and the President of Nunatsiavut, Johannes Lampe announced the launch of the feasibility assessment for the establishment of an Indigenous Protected Area under the Canada National Marine Conservation Areas Act adjacent to Torngat Mountains National Park. This proposed protected area results from the vision of the 2017 Statement of Intent on Imappivut for protecting the waters and biodiversity in the waters offshore of the Labrador Inuit Settlement Area and for the recognition of Labrador Inuit connection, knowledge and rights to the ocean.
