This website describes how Coastal First Nations, other First Nations, and federal and provincial governments are working together to manage and protect marine ecosystems along the North Pacific Coast through ecosystem-based planning. The Great Bear Sea Marine Protected Areas (MPA) network is being developed to safeguard marine biodiversity, including culturally important species like salmon and herring, while supporting traditional harvesting and coastal livelihoods. This collaborative effort aims to create a resilient and representative network of protected areas that honours Indigenous governance and protects ocean health for future generations.
