Marine protected area networks (MPANs) are groups of marine protected areas that work together to protect habitats on a large scale, while also allowing for various human activities. Communities and countries worldwide are taking the lead in establishing MPANs to achieve local conservation goals and meet global commitments to preserving nature. This report draws from five global MPAN case studies, peer-reviewed literature and expert interviews, to share global lessons learned and suggested best practices for MPAN monitoring in British Columbia’s Northern Shelf Bioregion.
