The purpose of this draft report is to provide a historical overview of the experiences of the Algonquins of Barriere Lake and to develop possible approaches to reconciliation of resource and land use in their territories. It covers historical events from the late 1800s over and describes the impacts of colonialism on the people and the land. It concludes that the Algonquins have received little or no benefit, and in fact have suffered hardship and loss, as a result of settler activities on their lands, and provides this as context for ongoing discussions.
