The Salmon Parks initiative is an Indigenous-led movement to recover key watersheds and restore wild salmon in the Ḥaḥahuułi (chiefly territories) of the Mowachaht/Muchalaht and Nuchatlaht Ḥaw̓iiḥ (hereditary leaders).
A Salmon Parks Indigenous Protected and Conserved Area (IPCA) has been designated under Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation (MMFN) law, comprising over 65,000 hectares on the central west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
The Salmon Parks Stewardship Society is implementing MMFN’s vision for Salmon Parks, guided by the core Nuu-chah-nulth principles of isaak (respect), uu-a-thluk (taking care of) and hishuk ish tsawalk (everything is connected).
