This Declaration was adopted by the General Assembly of the UN in September 2007. It affirms the rights of Indigenous Peoples around the world, including their rights to their lands, territories and resources. Canada refused to endorse UNDRIP until 2016, when the Trudeau government adopted it. Since then there have been pushes to enshrine UNDRIP in domestic legislation, although the only jurisdiction to formally do so has been British Columbia, which passed the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act in fall 2019.
