“A butternut tree is a life-giving tree”. Serving as a source of medicine, the butternut tree plays a significant role in the Kitigan Zibi culture. Following a rapid decline in the number of Pagànàkomin trees, members of the Kitigan Zibi community worried about the health of the population. Thankfully, Kitigan Zibi’s Nagadjitòdjig Akì Guardians have stepped in and developed a pilot seedling program to educate the
community & encourage recovery of the species.
